Final changed Contents page
This is my contents page.
The colour scheme i have used is the same as that of my front cover keeping to my chosen magazine colours and style.
I have columns on the left hand side showing the main articles in the issue so the reader can find out all the big story's and reviews and i have made some lines to organise these so it looks neat and like a real magazine, the dominant image is of the main article which is a review of a band called 'Frenzy' this image is similar to the front cover so is easy for the reader to follow this main article.
I have included a small picture of the main article on the top left so the reader can get a small glimpse of what is to come in this issue.
This is similar to the bottom right corner where i have placed a small picture of the front cover, this idea i have seen through my research in other magazines such as NME and THE FLY, so i Incorporated the idea into my contents page.
I have also used a lot of white box's on the gray background, I think this makes my images stand out a bit more than if they where just on the page as the white pushes them out.
I have also made sure that throughout my pages i have used the same fonts, so the magazine and the writing is recognisable. As is customary on pages in a magazine i have a reference to the website for more information on the bottom of the contents page.
Final Double page spread, with changes made
This is my final Double page spread.
It has been set out like any normal magazine page, after researching all the ways to do it i decided on the main image on the right page (along with smaller images on the main page which relate to the article) and the questions and answers on the right, this is a style used widely I saw this format used in many issues of NME, Mojo and THE FLY.
The magazine name is also on the top right corner of the Right hand page, this again is something most magazines will do, along with the web address as well.
Once again i have kept with the black and white style, to try and show the anti-mainstream of the music being promoted and also I added columns to separate the different questions and answers.
I have also included small quotes from the articles which is something which i realised a lot of magazines do to give a small indication about the band and the actual article content.
The questions i have asked are ones which would be expected to be asked to a new band, for example things like how long the band has been together how they know each other and their hopes for the future, these i think help the reader get an insight into the type of band they are and the music they play.
Very final Front Cover
This is my final front cover, as you can see it is similar to my previous draft, however i have added some white bold tears behind the main headline, this has been done as to make it almost jump of the page as the black is contrasted against the white.I have kept with my black and white image idea,as I think it shows the music, most mainstream magazines have the full colour , however seeing as Indie is not mainstream I went against the codes and conventions of a regular magazine. I also made the writing much bigger and moved it down, thus showing the importance and that this is the main dominant article and so people can easily see its relation to the front cover image.
I have also added some writing underneath the picture in the top right hand corner, this i have seen in many magazine covers so was something i thought would make mine look authentic. The authenticity is something which has been a very important factor when creating these pages, that's why i have paid particular care to the little things such as the bar code on the bottom right side and the placement of the articles so they have a look which makes you think professional.
I have also tweaked things like the placement of writing such as the web address, this has been moved so that i have less blank spaces and so everything looks more organised and therefore more real or professional.
The colours used are very much similar throughout the whole of the magazine, the black and white effect is one which i haven't changed in this issue, therefore creating a mood or style of this particular magazine or just the issue.

contents page
This is a last draft of my contents page.
I have everything where i need it to be and just need to add a few more pieces of writing and adjust a few things.
I have changed it from my first draft as i have gone with a different image to be dominant and a different style.
I have also included the more organised look on the left side with my main articles being shown.
I have also added small previews of each main article, and a small picture for the most important one, the review of 'Frenzy'.
I have also added a image of my front cover on the bottom right corner and added a web address as is seen on most magazine pages, especially contents page.
I have kept with the black, white and red colours that have been used on my front cover and Double Pge Spread, this shows the certain ideas for my magazines 'House Colours'.
And the whole idea of keeping the pictures in black and white or greyscale has been carried on in this page.
With a few tweaks I hope that my magazine contents page will reach that of a proffesional one and therfore will show a more real contents page than my first draft did.
Double Page Spread
This is my draft of my Double Page Spread.
As you can see it is not finished yet as i have much more writing to add in, but i have settled with my review style, it is a question and answer format so the audience can get the necessary information about this new upcoming band.
I have my dominant image, which is the same as my front cover, this helps the reader realise that this is in fact the most important article of the issue, it is the dominant one.
I have the questions in red and the answers in white, this is to help the reader realise which is which and to separate them. The small pictures add up to help the reader or audience build a mental picture of this band.
I hope to edit this page so to have more writing and more organisation, I will also need to add the magazine name and web address somewhere to keep that style running throughout.

Front cover 2
This is my second draft for my front cover.
I have gone with a different approach this time with a much bolder picture here, with a low angle on it.
I have kept my idea of the black and white effect to add the feel of my magazine and especially this issue.
I have a colour scheme of Red, white and Black these colours are ones which i will carry throughout the magazine issue.
I have filled up the areas where before there where just blank spaces with things like the main articles and bands featured in the weeks issue. This has been done on the right side, an idea of the black and red i got from a issue of NME.
The top right corner shows something linked to this main article as it seems.
The main headline is trying to stand out and show the whole focus of this issue of 'REVERB'.
I have also included a strap line and a web address which i hope to include on all my pages as is done in the professional magazine.

Contents page first draft
This is my first draft contetns page.
As we can see it is very simple, it has the main articles on the left side, to show some organisation.
The image have used has been faded out so I can easily write on top of it, the main articles have pictures on the right side, these i have attempted to fade into the picture to make it seem like on big poster, this was my idea, to have the contents like a mind map of the issue.
I have kept with the black and white approach that i used on my front cover, to show continuous colour style and to provide a certain idea for my magazines house colours and style.

Magazine Front Cover
This is my first draft of my magazine front cover.
I have used a black and white photo to show my music style and Target audience, this shows the Indie side as it has the opposite idea to mainstream music where there would be huge colour.
I have stretched my Masthead across the top like THE FLY, and also done the same with my main cover story, i have added smaller storeys around the Central dominant image so there are no blank spaces.
I have included small details like price, barcode and issue and date, all to add a sense of authenticity.
My image is of someone i would associate with the music, and also someone who is recognisable to show a certain genre of it, also by using the instruments have really shown the music trying to be portrayed.
The smaller story's are things I believe are of interest to my target audience, such as gig guides and new upcoming bands which is something i wish my magazine to focus on, similar to THE FLY.

Contents PAGE
This is the contents page of my school magazine 'ACADEMIA'
The background of the contents page is showing the colours of St. Andrews, the blue's.
The dominant image shows us the main focus of this issue which for this is the opening of a new D.T workshop.
Down the left hand side are the other main story's of this issue and below are all the minor story's and pages in this issue.
The font of 'contents' is the same that is used on the front cover, this shows the style that will be carried on through these magazines.
Overall this contents page really captures the style of 'Academia' and clearly shows the main focus's of this issue through use of image and font, for example the main heading about the DT workshop is placed a t the top of the page easily showing the focus of this issue.

GRAZIA magazine contents page analysis
This is the contents page of GRAZIA magazine.
It is simple yet effective. There is one dominant image instead of many, this could be the main focus of this issue and so is giving a preview of what is to come.
This contents page shows us a lot about the reader of GRAZIA we can see they are elegant and fashionable and always up to date with the latest styles.
It is a simple lay out and has a very plain background and the colours are very passionate colours, again showing the characteristics of the model GRAZIA reader.
The actual contents is very simple and basic set out, not in chronological order. Showing us that this magazines reader doesn't need everything to be set out simply they are an intelligent person.
The small picture on the bottom right hand corner shows us a preview of an important topic in this issue, the reader can see the main focus of this issue again.

Analysis of Mens Health contents page
This is the Men's health contents page.
As we can see it is well laid out and structured so the reader has easy access to whichever article they want as the main articles have bold numbering and stand out from the less important or minor features of this issue of the magazine.
It is set out in a chronological order so the numbers of the pages are sorted and not all over the place. This is helpful as the reader no longer has to search through the magazine for a certain article when it is standing out at them on the contents page.
Each major feature of the magazine has a small piece of writing describing it, this preview gives the reader an idea of what the certain articles will be about and if they will interest them.
The title 'CONTENTS' is clear and stands out against the white background, this uses the house styles of 'Men's Health' magazine, red, white and black. These are all bold colours and dominate the page. These colours are simple yet effective.
The other feature to help the reader is the colour coded guide on the left hand page, clearly showing us as the audience the different sections and subjects that this magazine covers.

Analysis of THE FLY contents page
This is a very simplistic contents page, the layout is very simple the main image dominates the page and shows one of the topics of this issue of THE FLY magazine.
The actual contents is also very simple so easy to use, it goes in order of pages and has all the stories and reviews on the contents page.
As the photo is promoting one particular story or review it has the page number of that review so the reader will immediately know where to go to get more information on this person and/or their band.
The issue number is also shown bold and is clear to see this is the first issue of 2011.
Overall this contents page is very effective and user friendly, the dominant image is defiantly something i will think about using in my magazine.
Contents page analysis of NME
This is a contents page from NME magazine.
The layout is very efficient and is easy to find what you are looking for in the magazine and also shows the main focus of this issue which is the album chart of 2009.
It shows us which page different sections of the magazines e.g the news and reviews e.t.c.
It also keeps its house styles, the colour and the type of font being used.
This contents page has influenced my magazine because it is informative and keeps in style with the magazine, it also is laid out so everything is easy to find and in order so it is user friendly.
Another thing i like about this is the commercial adverts promoting the magazine and nothing else.
Influence for my magazine photo
This magazine front cover is a great influence of my magazines.
The way the masthead is spread across the top is the same idea that i will use as it easily shows the magazine name and stands out against less bold magazines.
The photo has influenced mine because it shows the same type of people that feature in indie/rock music, also i like the black and white effect used to edit the photo.
It is also a good influence because it shows the main focus of this issue of MOJO, which for this particular one is the band DOORS.
Double page spread of The FLY MAGAZINE
This is a double page3 spread from the fly magazine, the picture on the right is showing what the topic being talked about is. The band being reviewed is WHITE LIES.
The writing is about the recording of their second album (ritual).
The writing for this is very formal and up to date with modern language, using words such as 'nailed' this shows us that it is aimed at the younger reader as opposed to the older generations of music fans.
I guess the picture is a image of the band edited to match the bands name 'WHITE LIES'
This layout is very successful as it easily shows the topic of the review and also shows the band members and the type of music it is , all the mystical signs tattooed over the band members could suggest the type of music they play.
This style of layout, the big image being domiant, is the same style that i will be using in my own magazine 'REVERB'.

Analysis of THE FLY masthead
This is the masthead for THE FLY magazine.
The masthead shows alot about the magazine, the fly sounds like it is very important and a big music magazine. This masthead is useful as it is big and bold so will stand out to a potential customer.
the reason i like this Masthead is because its eye catching and bold, it stretches all the way across the page and looks like it is important and informative. My magazine will have its masthead stretched in the same way.
Also it is very useful for a reader, if they want any more information the website is part of the masthead which i think is a good idea.
overall this is a catchy memorable and successful masthead which has influenced the designs of mine. The only bad thing about it is that unlike other magazine mastheads this one doesn't really give a suggestion to what type of music it promotes, whereas magazines such as NME, KERRANG and others do give us an idea of what music their magazine is about.

Analysis of NME Mast Head
Here are two mastheads from NME magazine, one of them is from when it was fairly new a nd the other is a more recent adaption of it. New Musical Express changed to NME this NME logo is still the same ideas from when it was new but has a modern look about it and sounds more modern ,so it will be appealing to those of a younger audience, also by keeping the name it already has a established reader and is one of the most well known music magazines around today.
The colours of the new NME masthead are the house colours of the magazine ,the red black a nd white, also these fit well with the music being promoted, for example blues and yellows wouldn't really tell the customer that this is a serious rock magazine, whereas the red black and white emphasise that. The mast head looks bold and stands out from other magazines on the shelf. Its a simple yet effective name its catchy and in some ways reflects the muisc being promoted.

Anaylsis of Double Page spread (NME)
This is a double page spread in NME magazine about 'THE LAST DAYS OF LENNON'.It is a look back at the original rock and roll star that was John Lennon and the issue is the 30th anniversary of his murder. The picture on the right of the page is connected to the front cover and keeps with the theme of that particular issue of NME.
The layout of this page is easy to read and well put together, the main picture shows you straight away what the subject is the title on the second page shows the topic and then there are the paragraphs of writing accompanied by an image of the day of the murder, this is effective because everything is in one place instead of being spread around everywhere.
This is the same type of layout I'm going to use for my double page spread in my magazine.
