GRAZIA magazine contents page analysis

This is the contents page of GRAZIA magazine.
It is simple yet effective. There is one dominant image instead of many, this could be the main focus of this issue and so is giving a preview of what is to come.
This contents page shows us a lot about the reader of GRAZIA we can see they are elegant and fashionable and always up to date with the latest styles.
It is a simple lay out and has a very plain background and the colours are very passionate colours, again showing the characteristics of the model GRAZIA reader.
The actual contents is very simple and basic set out, not in chronological order. Showing us that this magazines reader doesn't need everything to be set out simply they are an intelligent person.
The small picture on the bottom right hand corner shows us a preview of an important topic in this issue, the reader can see the main focus of this issue again.

Analysis of Mens Health contents page

This is the Men's health contents page.

As we can see it is well laid out and structured so the reader has easy access to whichever article they want as the main articles have bold numbering and stand out from the less important or minor features of this issue of the magazine.
It is set out in a chronological order so the numbers of the pages are sorted and not all over the place. This is helpful as the reader no longer has to search through the magazine for a certain article when it is standing out at them on the contents page.
Each major feature of the magazine has a small piece of writing describing it, this preview gives the reader an idea of what the certain articles will be about and if they will interest them.
The title 'CONTENTS' is clear and stands out against the white background, this uses the house styles of 'Men's Health' magazine, red, white and black. These are all bold colours and dominate the page. These colours are simple yet effective.
The other feature to help the reader is the colour coded guide on the left hand page, clearly showing us as the audience the different sections and subjects that this magazine covers.

Analysis of THE FLY contents page

This is a very simplistic contents page, the layout is very simple the main image dominates the page and shows one of the topics of this issue of THE FLY magazine.

The actual contents is also very simple so easy to use, it goes in order of pages and has all the stories and reviews on the contents page.

As the photo is promoting one particular story or review it has the page number of that review so the reader will immediately know where to go to get more information on this person and/or their band.

The issue number is also shown bold and is clear to see this is the first issue of 2011.

Overall this contents page is very effective and user friendly, the dominant image is defiantly something i will think about using in my magazine.

Contents page analysis of NME

This is a contents page from NME magazine.

The layout is very efficient and is easy to find what you are looking for in the magazine and also shows the main focus of this issue which is the album chart of 2009.
It shows us which page different sections of the magazines e.g the news and reviews e.t.c.
It also keeps its house styles, the colour and the type of font being used.
This contents page has influenced my magazine because it is informative and keeps in style with the magazine, it also is laid out so everything is easy to find and in order so it is user friendly.
Another thing i like about this is the commercial adverts promoting the magazine and nothing else.

Influence for my magazine photo

This magazine front cover is a great influence of my magazines.
The way the masthead is spread across the top is the same idea that i will use as it easily shows the magazine name and stands out against less bold magazines.
The photo has influenced mine because it shows the same type of people that feature in indie/rock music, also i like the black and white effect used to edit the photo.
It is also a good influence because it shows the main focus of this issue of MOJO, which for this particular one is the band DOORS.

Double page spread of The FLY MAGAZINE

This is a double page3 spread from the fly magazine, the picture on the right is showing what the topic being talked about is. The band being reviewed is WHITE LIES.

The writing is about the recording of their second album (ritual).

The writing for this is very formal and up to date with modern language, using words such as 'nailed' this shows us that it is aimed at the younger reader as opposed to the older generations of music fans.

I guess the picture is a image of the band edited to match the bands name 'WHITE LIES'

This layout is very successful as it easily shows the topic of the review and also shows the band members and the type of music it is , all the mystical signs tattooed over the band members could suggest the type of music they play.

This style of layout, the big image being domiant, is the same style that i will be using in my own magazine 'REVERB'.

Analysis of THE FLY masthead

This is the masthead for THE FLY magazine.
The masthead shows alot about the magazine, the fly sounds like it is very important and a big music magazine. This masthead is useful as it is big and bold so will stand out to a potential customer.
the reason i like this Masthead is because its eye catching and bold, it stretches all the way across the page and looks like it is important and informative. My magazine will have its masthead stretched in the same way.
Also it is very useful for a reader, if they want any more information the website is part of the masthead which i think is a good idea.
overall this is a catchy memorable and successful masthead which has influenced the designs of mine. The only bad thing about it is that unlike other magazine mastheads this one doesn't really give a suggestion to what type of music it promotes, whereas magazines such as NME, KERRANG and others do give us an idea of what music their magazine is about.

Analysis of NME Mast Head

Here are two mastheads from NME magazine, one of them is from when it was fairly new a
nd the other is a more recent adaption of it. New Musical Express changed to
NME this NME logo is still the same ideas
from when it was new but has a modern look about it and sounds more modern ,so it will be appealing to those of a
younger audience, also
by keeping the name it already has a established reader and is one of the most well known music magazines around today.
The colours of the new NME masthead are the house colours of the magazine ,the red black a
nd white, also these fit well with the music being promoted, for example blues and yellows wouldn't
really tell the customer that this is a serious rock magazine, whereas the red black and white emphasise
that. The mast head looks bold and stands out from other magazines on the shelf. Its a simple yet effective name its catchy and in some ways reflects the muisc being promoted.

Anaylsis of Double Page spread (NME)

This is a double page spread in NME magazine about 'THE LAST DAYS OF LENNON'.It is a look back at the original rock and roll star that was John Lennon and the issue is the 30th anniversary of his murder. The picture on the right of the page is connected to the front cover and keeps with the theme of that particular issue of NME.

The layout of this page is easy to read and well put together, the main picture shows you straight away what the subject is the title on the second page shows the topic and then there are the paragraphs of writing accompanied by an image of the day of the murder, this is effective because everything is in one place instead of being spread around everywhere.

This is the same type of layout I'm going to use for my double page spread in my magazine.
